The San Franciso based design firm, LenartStudios, has developed products for a wide variety of industries, ranging from sports to medical. They have come up with a new product that helps keep surfers connected and safe. Using radio and GPS technologies, the Surf Radio works as a walkie-talkie, allowing surfers two-way communication with each other. In addition to being a communications device, the Surf Radio has a built in GPS system that gives surfers updated information on their location, rip currents, and ocean swells. If the Surf Radio is hit too hard by a wave, the system sends out an emergency beacon, allowing rescue workers to pinpoint the location of the inured surfer. This is a great example of bringing the latest technologies into a niche market and allowing for a better/safer surfing experience.
