Who says the tailpipe has to be the best sounding accessory on your crusier? Now you bikers can enjoy your music while cruising down the highway. Cycle Sounds makes compact, bolt-on sound systems for motorcycles that include two speakers, a 50-watt amplifier, and a handlebar mount for your MP3 player or satellite radio.

The two chrome aerodynamic bullet-style speakers act as directional drivers which broadcast the sound toward your ears. These UV- and water-resistant speakers mount to your handlebars and have 2″ aluminum drivers that provide amazingly clear sound over the noise of the wind and the road. The tiny 50-watt amplifier delivers the power you need to drive the speakers from the headphone output of your MP3 player or satellite radio. Chrome mounting brackets and bolts, power and ground harness, and wire connectors are included.

Features

Overview: The Cycle Sounds sound system allows you to listen to an iPod (or other MP3 player) or plug-n-play satellite radio tuner while traveling on your motorcycle. The system includes amplifier, two speakers, and an iPod/MP3 mount, all with chrome-plating, plus all the wiring and hardware.

Compatibility: This Cycle Sounds sound system is designed specifically to work with Harley Davidson Road King FLHR and Sportster XL motorcycles.

Speakers: The system features two chrome-plated bullet speakers. Each speaker has a 2″ aluminum cone driver. The speakers mount to the motorcycle handlebars using the side-view mirror bolts and the supplied “Z” brackets. The screw-on grilles can be removed and replaced by optional custom grilles (sold separately by the manufacturer).

Amplifier: The 2-channel, 50 watts-per-channel amplifier mounts to the front of the motorcycle using the chrome-plated mounting plate. The specific mounting location may vary per model. The amplifier wiring harness includes a 7.5′ input cable with a right-angled 3.5mm mini-plug for connecting the amp to the iPod, MP3 player, or satellite radio tuner.

MP3 Bracket: The system comes with a universal chrome-plated MP3 mounting bracket. The portable audio unit can be attached to the bracket with the supplied self-adhesive Velcro strip. Custom mounting brackets for satellite radio tuners and iPods are also available directly from the manufacturer.

Power Requirements: The system includes power and ground wiring for the amplifier which needs to be spliced into the motorcycle’s power wiring. An optional T-Tap power harness (item number 066200026) is available for use with select Harley Davidson motorcycles. The portable device operates on its own built-in batteries. Note: An optional voltage inverter (item number 066200025) can be used to supply power to a plug-n-play satellite radio receiver.

Recommendations: The manufacturer recommends using an MP3 player or audio device that has a built-in equalizer for best results. It is also recommended that the portable unit have an audio output of 15-30 mV through the headphone output. Models that work best with the speaker system include the Apple iPod (including nano and mini), Motorola MP3 players, Creative Labs MP3 players (including the Creative Zen Micro and Creative Sleek), XM Roady, Roady2, and RoadyXT, the XM My-Fi, and Sirius Sportster.

Warnings: Use of a radio, iPod, MP3 player, Satellite Radio tuner, or any other device on a motorcycle increases the risk of riding. Volume and tuning adjustments should be made when the motorcycle is not in motion.

  2. [...] This Cycle Sounds system bolts onto the bike. It includes two small, two-inch speakers, a 50-watt amplifier and the proper mounting tools. I’m not too sure if the two-inch speakers will be able to silence the muffler (or lack thereof) coming out the motorcycle’s backside, but with chrome this nice, who cares about functionality? It’s all about looks on the hog. It’s available for $400.[via] [...]
