130mph. 13,500 RPM. 0-60mph in about four seconds. Meet the Tesla Roadster, the car that hopes to elevate the image of the plug-in electic car. Tesla is a Silicon Valley based company and has looked to UK based Lotus for help with the design and production of the vehicle. In a quick 3.5 hour charge, the Roadster will take you about 250 miles, which is farther than most sports cars will take you on a tank of gas.

The Roadster will be going for $100,000 and you need to send in a $5,000 waiting list down payment. The company plans on coming out witha plug-in electric sedan for about half the price of the Roadster, but this may be a couple years out. According to the company, it should only cost approximately $.01/mile in energy costs which is certainly cheaper and friendlier to the environment than conventional sports cars. Look for the Tesla Roadster to hit the US sometime early this year.
