With the Logitech Squeezebox Duet music network system, one can listen to their personal music collection, Internet radio and subscription services anywhere they have audio gear. And with the Squeezebox Duet controller, listeners can control their digital music from the palm of their hand.
When the Sonos system was first introduced jaws dropped. Not because of what is can do, because of the crazy price tag. With Logitech’s new Squeezebox Duet, Sonos direct competitor, your are looking at a 60% price difference! The $400 network digital audio streamer employs a winning handheld remote with a brilliant color screen that lets you navigate your entire music collection (including some online services and the majority of free Internet radio stations) from the palm of your hand… anywhere in the house!

Ah but two massive omissions from this product are:
1. No multi-room same-tune synchronisation - something that Sonos excels at, and a universally required feature for any credible multi-room system and…
2. No wireless mesh network - this means the range of the system is determined by the range of the existing wireless router. Sonos wireless range is extended by each and every zone player.
This is a good contender for a studio apartment byt not a serious contender for a decent multi-room system.

I have used both the Squeezebox(s) (not duet) and Sonos in my home — Both nice systems
1-Squeeze does have multi room sync (I use it daily)
2-Wireless mesh network - I had more dropouts and connection issues with Sonos (every few days) than Squeeze (almost none) from two rooms away — maybe I would notice benefit if I setup a third Sonos…maybe Sonos just did not like like my 2wire router….
big negative for Sonos in my setup - One Sonos unit had to be hardwired to router obviously limiting stereo or router placement.

Maybe the Logitech employee that demonstrated the Duet to me at CES the other day was mis-informed then! He did say that multi-room synchronisation wasn’t a capability. (He did also say he was new to Logitech). The really great pity was that he wasn’t able to demo anything at all because the wireless signal kept dropping out.
