The Magnetic Grill Light provides direct nighttime light where you need it while flipping burgers. The grill light has a strong magnetic base that attaches to most stainless steel barbecue tools.  Simply attach the light to the grill utensil, swivel and focus the light towards the area required.  If you’re grill accepts magnets, then you could also attach to the grill top and direct the light while open.  Heck, it doesn’t even have to be used by the grill… use it anywhere.  On the frig, by the workbench or on the bike.  Endless uses for this great $14 dollar gadget.  The light contains three LED bulbs and requires three batteries that should last a very long time…

Highlights:

  • Magnetic light attaches to a variety of stainless-steel barbecue tools
  • Focus the light towards the food for grilling without the guesswork
  • Ball-and-socket connection provides a full range of motion
  • 3 LED bulbs for maximum brightness; 3 LED batteries included
  • Measures 2 by 4/5 by 2 inches; 3-year warranty on the LED bulbs

rockwell-sonicrafter-cutting-blade-tool-sander

The Rockwell SoniCrafter appeals to me because of the cost savings and convenience – one tool that can saw, sand, scrape, grind, and polish.

Plus, it works on a variety of surfaces like metal, wood, sheetrock, plastic, linoleum, carpet, ceramic and stone.

What makes this tool different is the microsonic oscillating action, which means the Sonicrafter blade uses side to side motion vs. the traditional rotating or reciprocating blade of standard tools.

This oscillation technology is said to provide a more controlled and safer user experience, and because the design is compact and has no guards, you can get into tighter spaces too.

My favorite part? Because the blade spins side to side, any sawdust falls right onto the work area, as opposed to standard circular motion, which scatters debris everywhere. Sounds good to me.

  • Sonicrafter oscillates up to 20,000x per minute vs. standard sanders at 8,000 – 12,000x per minute (moves sandpaper almost twice as fast!)
  • Fits in one hand, weighs only 2.8lbs
  • Magnesium Alloy casing, so it’s lightweight but durable
  • Neutral switch means both left and right-handed persons can use it
  • 120V ~ 60Hz, 2.3 Amps, 6 variable speeds
  • Available in kits with 20, 37 and 72-piece accessories
  • Check out the Rockwell Sonicrafter in action here.

I remember last summer’s home renovations, which required that we rip up our old carpet and underpad so we could install our beautiful new hardwood flooring. The sheer tediousness of having to pull up all those staples made me want to run from the house screaming. So when I saw the Nail Jack from Nail Jack Tools, I was pretty intrigued.

Made to dig, grip and pull, the Nail Jack makes it easy to remove old nails, staples and brads.
Its about as low-tech as you can get, but what’s interesting is the practical design, which seems to do the work of several tools, like that of a cat’s paw, pair of pliers and traditional nail puller in one.

  • Spring-loaded handles are curved and offset from the actual clamping jaws, which makes for easier prying
  • Jaws themselves have a concave design so griping a nail head is easier
  • When closed, the jaws form a sharp point, and you can use a hammer on the back end of the jaws (the “hammer tap”) to drive the sharp point beneath hard-to-grab flush nails
  • The 11″ Nail Jack retails for $30. A smaller version (the 8.5″ Nail Hunter) is also available.

    door-lifter-tool-renovations-home

The EZY Hang Door Lifter is a nifty tool that can help you hang both hollow and solid doors with ease. As someone who’s struggled to hold the door in position while my partner feverishly rushes to pin it down, I can tell you this is one tool I think would come in handy during the home renovation process.

Simply place the door on the EZY Lifter’s lifting arms and operate the levers with your foot to elevate the door into place. Foot operation means your hand is free to balance the door in place. Voila –
    instantly a two-man job becomes a one-person task.

Best of all, the two independent levers mean you can adjust the height of either side of the door to easily align with the frame.

Quicker installation, and safer too, since you’re not wrestling with door while trying to screw it in place.

The Ezy Door Lifter is designed and manufactured in Australia. No word yet on a North American release.

  • Lifts doors up to 100kg
  • Elevates doors up to 25mm from the floor (just under 1″)
  • Folding handles for easier storage
